Sources close to the Presidency has revealed to Finally Adulting that, the President, Nana Akufo Addo, is planning to invite Charterhouse Ghana over events of last Saturday’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Charterhouse Ghana is the organiser of the VGMA. The President expects to receive briefing over circumstances that led to Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale climbing on stage while another Dancehall artiste, receive his award for the Dancehall Artiste of The Year. Stonebwoy pulled out what is suspected to be a gun on stage.
The President, according to the sources, took an interest in the matter when the Foreign Minister, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, called on him to render an apology to the British High Commissioner, Mr. Iain Walker. Mr. Walker was in attendance when the onstage scuffle between Shatta Wale and Stonebowy happened. A liquid substance, police revealed was pepper spray was sprayed into the audience. The Foreign Minister, who was also in attendance, suspected Mr. Walker may have had an encounter with the spray.
The sources also revealed that the President has secretly expressed regret for hosting both dancehall acts. The President’s major concern is the use of violence. Parties which has been linked to him have been perpetuating violence since he took office. The sources didn’t mention the specific parties the President has expressed concern about. It is likely the President is referring recent Ayawaso West Wougon Election violence and activities of groups like Delta Force.
The sources said, it is not clear when the President will invite Charterhouse Ghana to the Jubilee House. The President has not made any move by way of invitation to Charterhouse yet.
The sources revealed that the President’s plan to invite Charterhouse preceded their Press Conference. At a press conference, held at Alisa Hotel on Thursday morning, Charterhouse revealed Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has been banned from the VGMA indefinitely. The awards they won this year was also rescinded.
